1966 Rear differential cover

Post by offroadkid »

Anyone have a rear differential cover sitting around? My new to me rig has a small crack in it up by the top bolt.

You know you have a Patrol... when you have a crack in the rear diff cover...

Pretty common.

The solution will be to solder it or use a mig welder on it. Put a 1/16" hole at each end of the crack to relieve tensions prior to the welding. Will prevent further growing of the crack.

HA! Thanks Esteban, it's good to know that it's not just mine! I had my friend at work mig weld it on the outside while on the on the rig, just because I had resealed it the previous day with the sealant we use at work. In doing so, he warned me that the heat might ruin the sealant bead and if that's not what happened, I think I need to remove it, clean it, and weld it correctly. Alternatively, I may have sourced a used diff cover through this wonderful forum!

No longer looking for a rear diff cover as I was "hooked-up" with a spare thanks to Flaggoni!
