Compatible Brake Drums

Post by Peter60 »

I have a 68 Patrol. I fitted new cylinders and shoes to the front. I thought I would have the front drums honed and cleaned up at the local brake shop.

They measured them and said they were oversize/too worn and there was nothing they could do.

So far I haven't been able to find any new drums for the G60 but could get some rear drums for a Y60 (I have no idea if they fit)

So are there any compatible front drums available for a G60?
Not sure if I will get there.
Not sure if I will get back.

None that I am aware of. Shouldn't be too hard to find a set of used ones.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Ive heard that toyota pick up drums fit 1980s-early 90s not sure though i havnt tried myself. Im thinking the center hole may need to be open up some on the toyota. Good luck with this. Let us know what you find.

A recent post titled "Parts From Down Under" see http://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=3802 had brake linings with 6mm oversize.

So a couple of questions?

I think the drums are 292mm diameter. If these were honed out to 298mm would the oversize linings fit perfectly? Is there any downside?

Could a brake shop make some oversize linings - say 295mm to match honed out drums to 295mm?
