now this is in relation to both the p motor and in particular the sd33t.......bear with me
my patrol "hermit" will be getting her sd33t dropped in shortly- i have the steel tray for the triton now almost done and with it comes a crane so i can lift thing like motors etc.....
now there is a few issues with dropping an sd33t into the g60: the turbo position from factory is very average in clearance of both the starter motor, and the passenger side footwell itself and the body mount.......drivers side for you yanks
Now its possible to relocate the turbo with a lot of custom fab work, but you still end up with a great big lump of super hot steel in the engine bay, and that heat will get thrown into the cab under your feet.....not so fun on a 40 degree day in an ausie summer.....the turbo also increases intake air temps and the motors running temp- exhaust gas temps being kept low is noted as critical for a healthy sd33t- they do not like heat, and the g60 engine bay as a very good heat trap.
now a mate of mine has an sc14 super charger- think they are off toyotas or holdens? Anyways, this one already has a 12 psi pulley fitted to it. Its been offered to me for a rediculously fair price........though currenty im still too broke to do anything more than seriously consider the idea.....
If i was to fit this to the sd33t it would solve all the heat/space/clearance issues in 1 blow. It allow a reasonable exhaust to actually be fitted up without nearly as much expensive fab work from the local exhaust shop, and it gives a few more options for a custom intake manifold which doesnt starve cyl 1 and 6 of air like the factory set up does.
12psi is reasonable for the stock sd33t, and having no turbo lag means instant torque available from idle- given this ute will be primarily used for firwood hauling and towing a car trailer i think the "no lag" is a huge positive, as is the massive decrease in heat.
Down sides are the need for custom pulleys, possible belt slippage, and more load on the crank- such as it would be. Plus more things to go wrong..... dont look too hard at my track reccord with turboes though, my nickname isnt murphy for nothing.
Now my next line of thought is along the lines of the p motor being a very low comp motor- i have a rebuilt one sitting here which has around 600km on it before being parked up. With the low factory comp ratio the p motor would be very suitable for supercharging would it not?? Im assuming the ignition system can be made to handle it?, and ditto the carb- obviously i would be looking at something like a blow through type set up? ........i really am out of my depth when talking super chargers and carbys.....
