Love this model. Probably the most sturdy and reliable Patrol since the 80s (beside de 60 series). The reverse is synchronized believe it or not.

I actually think it is a fair amount more sturdy than any previous Patrol. Bigger axles that are fine spline, frame is fully boxed just like an old Patrol, TD42 is an extremely robust engine. My only issues with it is that it is right hand drive.

I personally like my RHD truck. I hesitated driving it much at first, there is definitely a learning curve, but once I got used to it it was no different than and LHD vehicle for me. I still walk up to the wrong door sometimes, then it's like . But I really like driving it. It really messes people up that are heading towards you - they don't see someone on the 'driver's' side of the truck and it takes them a minute to figure it out.

Sure, no biggie depending on uses of the truck. Classic Patrols are more of a recreational truck for me, fun Sunday drive in the country type of stuff. No RHD for me in a daily driver, I use the drive through at the bank a lot. Also, out on the HWY, I find it dangerous for passing. You can't see around a semi for example and can't really peek around one to pass. Since I will use a Safari/Y60 Patrol for trips into Latin America that is HUGE for me. Baja roads are very narrow for example with lot's of semi's and it is sketchy enough without being in a RHD truck. Few countries you can't take a RHD truck without special permit and a hassle, like El Salvador.

100% personal preference though in terms of LHD vs RHD.

As far as I understand no Safari's came from Nissan in LHD, since they were a JDM spec truck. Only the Safari's had high roofs too. So you can't get a high roof in LHD. However, there is lot's of them in Malaysia and I have seen a few in Colombia. What I have been told is that these are all converted Safari's.

I like the high roofs due to interior space and room. Makes a big difference if you plan to live out of the truck for months on end like I do.

Ian, they did make into Ecuador in LHD. The wagon came in both types, standard roof and high roof. Never a diesel though.

The 6 cyl gasoline is a ver sturdy engine, not so the similar Toyota one, that had a tendency to brake the timing chain without warning. But Toyota was better at marketing and eroded the Patrol market significantly.

I too will be scared to have a RHD as a daily driver but as Leslie says, you'll get used to it.

The fact that the advertised Patrol has an aftermarket turbo could be a drawback.

Not to me, that is a great ATX turbo kit made in Aus, not cheap too.

All the JDM diesels will be 24v.

All the Safari guys on Patrol4x4 say that the high roofs and the Safari only came in RHD and was only a JDM truck. I have read a lot about the LHD Safari's in Malaysia all being converted to LHD. But again, this is all 2nd hand info, I have never looked at a LHD Safari up close to see if it had been converted. In pictures I can't tell. What I have been told is people buy up the JDM Safari's and then ship them to LHD countries and they get converted there before resale. I was looking at one in Colombia recently, low grade model, gas engine, LHD and high roof, badged a "Patrol". I could not see any signs of conversion in the pics.

I will take your word for it Esteban, all my info like I say is 2nd hand and hearsay.

There is a ton of JDM Safari's on TradeMe in NZ. Very popular truck down there and lot's been imported to NZ from Japan. Rust is an issue though in NZ.
