P40 or PPU rebuild kit

Post by npca-chris »

Dusty,    I have ordered most of all my parts from Danny at Motor Power Inc for the PPU motor, and they have all worked fine.  Danny even recommended that I use the PPU over the P40 parts.  I have ordered the basic engine kit, intake valves, exhaust valves, valve guides, cam gear, crank gear, and oil pump without any problems. ThanksChris

P40 or PPU rebuild kit

Hey Chris...do you know what will not work? I have three rebuilds in the future and one will get P engine parts but two will not. Certain things are not available from Nissan for the P engine and as most people know it is expensive. Also no kit is available for the P engine so everything has to be bought sepreate. Grant had a few probs with the P40 but got the job done. We/I don't have much info about the PPU, are external engine parts compatable like internals are? Do you mean Crank Shaft when you say crank gear?? The crank shaft is NLA from Nissan. How do pistons, rings, rockers and flywheel fit? It sounds like you only did a top end rebuild do you or anyone else know how the bottem end is for compatability??   I recently got an oil pump from Nissan and with club discount it was decent price wise. Also on a seperate not...I got two master cylinders from Nissan that were fair price wise and complete. Some people have said this item is NLA from Nissan but that is not true.....others parts like this can also be bought from Nissan at a decent price if you use the 25% club discount.

P40 or PPU rebuild kit

>>Do you mean Crank Shaft when you say crank gear??   My guess is no, in that unlike the P-40 which has a gear at the end of the cam (cam gear) and a gear at the end of the main (main gear) and a chain connecting the two, the "P" has two gears... bigger dia where the gears themself mesh togther. That is to say there is no chain connecting them, they actully touch/mesh.   >>It sounds like you only did a top end rebuild do you or anyone else >>know how the bottem end is for compatability??   Well, I know for a FACT that the main bearing for the "P-40" will NOT work for the "P". But, would be interesting to know if the "PPU" main bearings will work for the "P". And the seals front and rear were a no go too! So, in retrospect, I wish I would have had a chance to talk to "Danny" guy at motorpower instead of the guy I did talk to that sold me the "P-40" kit instead... In that another thing that didnt work from the "P-40" kit was the valve guides! I had to get them from NISSAN and wasnt easy, the wait was long! The pistons and rings were fine though. I really need to do that write up before I forget all this stuff! I have an old post somewhere where I noted what did and didnt work from the P40 kit, but it wasnt complete.   Grant In a NUT shell... sounds like the "PPU" kit is a much better fit for the "P" then the "P-40"
