Mike's 9th G60 - 1967 G60 Patrol Ute

Post by G60michael »

Hi everyone, this is the newest G60 to the fleet which I picked up on Saturday, its the 9th one owned now 8-) .

It is a 1967 G60 Patrol Trayback Ute. Being a 67' Model Means its the Second year that Nissan Actually had started making Actual designated Ute bodies as Prior to 1966 They were all converted MWB Wagon Bodies. Mines a Fully Original Ute, the First of the Real Utes was in 1966 and then they were being built on a MWB chassis(2500mm) and were optioned to be Lengthened in the Chassis if buyer had ordered that, but the Compliance plates state they were 2500mm Wheelbase, My 67 is still as it left the Factory with the original 2500mm Chassis 8-)

I Posted on a Local Facebook Page of where I Live for a Buy Swap and Sell Site asking around to see if anyone had any Local G60's and a Bloke Responded. I asked for photos, he had none at the time but soon got some sorted. He Sent a few Photos and soon as I noticed that it had 3 Windscreen Vents and was an Early model, I done everything to make sure I didn't miss out, as its Complete and 1960's G60's are Rare as Hen's teeth here in Australia.

Having not seen it before, bar a few pictures , I couldn't really determine its Actual overall condition, it had visible rust over the vehicle but I knew it was Rare and would be the Ultimate Parts Donor Vehicle for my 1966 G60, as not much 70's G60 Parts fit or work on the earlier one's. So on the Weekend Myself and a couple of mates headed out with a trailer to tow the old Ute back to my place. Once we arrived there was the old Beast with all the Patina and Vines half hanging of it where it had been sitting in the thick Jungle like bush for the last 5 or 6 years. We managed to get her loaded up Quickly and we headed out the rugged track back to the main road ready for the Hour Trip home.

About 7 Years ago this old Truck was Located Literally within 5 minuets Drive of my house on the main road into town , I am going to try to located some History and Info of the Truck in its previous life as I know other locals who know the original owners :)

Under The Bonnet Lives the Original Engine, its missing a Carburetor and the Coil but was told it Would run and drive with a Carby and Coil. Someone's also Fitted and Electric Fuel Pump and the Generators Been Replaced with an Alternator. Engine Was Full of oil and Had Alright Compression for A 50 Year old truck been sitting for years.

Final Part Needed for Grunty, Original Generator Voltage Regulator4442

The Interiour is Still Pretty Original and Unmolested, Dash has had no damage to it, There is the original Instrument Cluster and the Gauges are in Awesome condition for there age, The Original Ashtray Still sits inside the dash full or Cigarette buts, The Glove box if full of a rats nets, as well as brake fluid, an old set of points, the 4wd Instructions Plate from Firewall, The Original Pedal Rubbers, A Dizzy Cap, Original Cast Steel Fender "Nissan Patrol" Badge in mint condition and even an old Spanner which I don't know if its original and Even has an original Passenger Seat Still 8-) The Original ignition barrel resides in the Dash Panel with the Original Keys for ignition and the Drivers Door. Under the Drivers Seat was Tons of old Vegetation, Dragged in as a nest for the Rats, as well as an old Well used Original Nissan Fan belt. Looking around the Roof there's Still the Original Roof lining and interior Lamp and the Original manual operate wipers which still work Great. Right in the Arms of the Driver is an original "Cool" Type Steering wheel in Perfect un-cracked Condition, and under the Dash is the Original Handle throttle mechanism that works still.

The Outside is Still Pretty Original Still, Original Front Tow Hooks, a Set of the Factory 16" Rims mated to a Set of tired old 7.50 Skinny Tyres, Rear Original lights and Bumperette's as well as original Handles, Badges. The Driveline is all Original except a Set of Power lock ( I think) hubs

And a vintage NRMA Members Sticker on the Passenger Quarter Window

And Yesterday Afternoon after Fitting a Temporary Carby and pinching a Coil From a Wreck G60 I Managed to Get this old Beast Running for the first time in Years, She was a Tad Smokey to begin with but seemed to slow up a bit as she warmed up, Engine idled beautifully and made no unusual noise, even had a massive drive and clocked up a total of 1.3km's Yep the Odometer and Speedo Still work, and hit a maximum of 13 MPH, not to Fast, but I figured its the quickest its been in a fair few years  4455

The Starter motor is Lazy so needed a Good Tow to get going, and The Clutch pedal is frozen a bit but ill sort that out no I know its worth the work as it runs :)

Its not Very Often a 60's G60 Pops up here in Aus, there a Scarce item over here, everything's a 70's model, the reason I purchased it was solely as a parts Truck for my 66, but no I know it goes, I might drive it regularly to keep her going for a bit Longer as well as Donor Parts for my 66 :)

Cheers G60mike

Thanks for the picture fix! Looks like a pretty solid rig. I notice that it doesn't have the dash map light, just a block off plate where one should be. It looks like it came like that from the factory. Interesting.

Hi thanks Leslie, I love Pictures too so that's why I got some organized. Yes I've seen Photos one other Original G60 Ute here in Aus (1966 owned by a Guy in NSW) it also had the blanked off Dash light Section the exact same

She's Rusty but being 67 was worth every cent in the Category or 'Rarity" 8-)

Also Can anyone help in working out what this tag is for, looks factory fitment  it is fixed to the underside of the Drivers seat box on the rear bit. Never seen one on my other g60's.

Also found part of the original owners Rego Papers

Takada Kogyo is a subsidiary of Nissan. It used to be the forklift division for Nissan. Maybe they were the subsidiary that made the ute bodies before they became standard production? Just a guess.

Wow she's original :o ;)

Looks like its still got a lot of original gear on it mate, also seems no one has messed with it too much. Is that a blanking plate where the dash light should go? Does it look factory or has someone put it on there?

Thanks Leslie, could be a chance that's the case :)

Hi Tim, Sure Seems to have a lot of the original gear left on it, So far I've noticed its got the
- Original 16" Non Split Rims as a Set of 4, Front Tow Hooks, Rear indicator Lights, Bumperettes, 60's Style Passenger Front Seat, Seatbelts,Crank handle Rubbers,
- Original interior Light, Cluster, Keys, Generator Regulator ect, Original Steering Wheel and indicator switch ect.

No I believe no one has really messed with it to much, Obviously someone's fitted Free Wheeling Hubs, Different Bar, Different Drivers Seat, and alternator.

However it might be crusty and rusty old G60, but Finding a 60's model these days in Aus is enough of a challenge on its own (even 70's models are getting thin) but one that's still pretty Original this many years on if remarkable :P

I have a Set of original G60 Hub Flanges, should I replace the free wheeling ones on it (seized up locking pins) with the Original Flanges or fit a set of spare freewheeling ones I also have ? Opinions ?

Cheers mike

Took the old 67 Ute for its first drive around the paddock last weekend, she performed well however she blows a fair bit of blue smoke  but it didn't stop once, I don't know If its worth trying to sort out the brakes on it to see If they can work as it even nose-dived into the creek and through the bonnet up
