Painting Chassis

Hi there folks, Just wanting to know what a good, durable nice shiny gloss black is to pain a chassis and driveline with, here is Aus we don't have the same products usually as you US Folks, Any help would be great, don't want something that will scratch to easily

I have been looking at doing a similar project as you.

For paint I have been looking at POR-15. They have a range of products, and its a bit confusing, but they have rust preventive preparations as well as chassis paint.

Not sure how available it is in Australia, but Rustoleum paints are tough and long lasting. I have used them on several restorations.

POR-15 is bloody good stuff. Super easy to paint on as it self levels and sets hard as a rock.. BUT.. It is not UV stable, meaning it will fade if not top coated.
I painted my '77 shorty chassis with it. It turned out really nice. If I did it again I would choose the silver colour and not black. You need to top coat it anyway and the silver is easier to keep track of what sections have good coverage.

For HP's chassis though I will be using KBS products. They come highly recommended to me and they are UV stable, so once it's painted you're done.
They have a full chassis kit for $140 and you can buy it from auto paint shops in Oz. might even be able to order from their site..

Hi, thanks Tim, Yes I am aware of KBS Products they have been recommended to me by a mate once before. I have Seen it in person and its pretty durable stuff, but it looked dull but it was probably not the Gloss one ?
