Exhaust/Tailpipe Question

Post by rawml »

In some of the various Patrol pictures, it appears the tailpipe is routed to the left-rear of the Patrol rather than simply venting outward under the passenger seat. Is this correct?

Both ways are correct. It seems the longer exhaust the routed to the rear may have been an option. As I recall, there is a bracket under the body on the frame behind the rear wheel for securing the tail pipe. Just don't rout it to the rear, you'll be breathing exhaust fumes that come back into the vehicle.

I can vouch for that! Our's had the tailpipe straight out the back and ugh... needed a respirator to drive it! Now it's out the side in front of the right rear tire. No gassing out at all!

Guess I should have read about this problem somewhere else on the forum before I had mine ran. Mine was originally out the back so that's where I put it back to when I had it redone. Guess I will have to have that fixed at some point!!

With the muffler setting in the space below the passenger's seat, is the side step mounted differently than the driver's side? I would imagine it would interfere with the function of the step.

With the hard top on and fresh rubber weatherstrip, you won't get the exhaust in the cab. It's when you're topless or with a canvas top.
