1973 NOX "Kar-Kit"

Hi all

My California Patrol had a NOX "Kar-Kit" installed on it sometime after 1973 - the original rad support front end has the following sticker applied to it:

While I can find plenty of discussion threads about it online for period domestic cars, I can't seem to find pics or an itemized list of what was contained in the emissions modification.
I found one thread which says that it was just a sticker reminding the driver to not exceed 60mph and a vacuum line plug to remove the vac advance feature on the distributor ... seems nutty if that is all it was ...

Does someone know or have pictures of what was included ? I THOUGHT that everything on my intake manifold is stock to 68/69 but I wanted to confirm with you all ...

I "installed" a few of those "kits" in the 70's... The sticker in your photo was half the kit. The other half was a plug for the vacuum-advance hose between carb and distributor. You then retarded the timing, over-leaned the idle mixture, then somehow limped the car to the smog-check station.
That kit was about $3. Another, more sophisticated kit ($15)
had a small green plastic vacuum solenoid valve which served to plug that same vacuum advance line. There was an overtemp switch clamped against a radiator hose, which would power the solenoid valve open so that the advance would work normally till the engine temp returned to normal.
Prolonged slower-than-original idle speed caused by retarded timing and lean mixture (and now slower cooling fan) tended to cause overheating.

Ouch, I bet that screwed up the drivability! As mentioned by Flaggoni, it sure would make the vehicle run hotter too. Neat period sticker, but if it were mine I would get the vacuum advance working again, set the initial timing back to original specs, and readjust the carb. But would keep the sticker as a conversation piece

Thanks for the info ... the sticker must be the only thing left from that kit on my truck. When I got it from Leslie the water protect distributor had a working vacuum advance hardline and timing was spot on - would you expect anything else from an ex-Leslie truck ?
