Re: Patrol Meeting in Colombia
OK, John, is in too. I even think my wife is warming up to it. I think we all need to "discover" S America as it will be used before the radical Muslim threat is curbed in Europe. S America, while dusty and a bit rural is so far free from radicals. Columbia (dusty, rural and real) and Argentina (fully cosmopolitan in several cities) are worth the trip, plus .....no jet lang.
Last month's Patrol rally was held in a little mountain town east of Bogota. The last time I was in Bogota the cab driver tried to mug me and just as we were going to "settle the matter" in a dark ally at 1 am (flights used to arrive at midnight) an angel appeared from nowhere and tipped the scales back in my favor. That was a bit dicey as the USA didn't even have diplomatic relations with Colombia then and the cartels ruled the roost...but hey I was there to help the cities clean up their rivers and streams.
That will not happen again and surely the flight schedules have changed. Those are the bad old days and every country has them, Too bad the rally isn't closer to the Medellin as the "coffee trail" leaves from there. I'm 80% sure it is safe but I will meet an old friend in New Orleans in Oct at an Environmental Conference. He will surely meet us in Bogota and go with us, in fact he used to have a couple of Patrols himself. He loves them.
I will fully check it out as there most recent "meeting" was in the last areas the rebels held. Who knows, maybe the rally changes locations each year.

Re: Patrol Meeting in Colombia
Good morning River Patrol, Any chance you have a website address for the Columbia Patrol Rally? I'm trying to plan my summer to see if it can be worked in.
Any fresh info would be appreciated.
Kind regards,
L60 Boerne

Re: Patrol Meeting in Colombia
They haven't posted any fresh info for this event yet. They use a Facebook page, here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/564398763570236/ . This is where they post the updates. It doesn't look like they have even set a date yet.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Re: Patrol Meeting in Colombia
Flight Special advertised yesterday -
If you are comfortable flying on Aeromexico then you can fly R/T from San Antonio to Bogota via Mexico City for about $750.00 at this time over the 4th of July holiday .....if that is when the Patrol meeting will be?
About $1300 if you want to fly on an American carrier.

That would be a fun trip, but I would wind up wanting to bring a few Patrols back with me!L60Boerne wrote:Flight Special advertised yesterday -
