Is this winch compatible with the Patrol?
I have the toyota winch that came off of the '67 chassis; however, would really like to put a koenig on it. Wondering about the mounts on this one and whether it is a good match for the Patrol? It looks like the mount for the winch drive shaft is on the wrong side? The PTO is on the driver's side of the cab, so I think the mounting point would have to be on the other side? Wondering if it could be switched if that's the case.

The shaft is indeed on the wrong side. It may be possible to reverse it, but there isn't a whole lot of information available on how to do that. Intriguing though.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Re: Is this winch compatible with the Patrol?
was doing some searching and it looks like RKI (out of Houston, the same place where Koenig was produced ... coincidence???) produces a winch that looks identical to the Koenig series 100 King winch (series 8 for them). Does anyone have any experience with them? I'm thinking I might put a new one on instead of searching for one to rehabilitate? I sent them an email, we'll see if they respond.

Wow!
That does look an awful lot like the original Koenig. This is the first that I have heard of it. That would be very cool if it were close to original.

In looking at the pics on the eBay ad, the gearbox was made such that the input shaft could come out either end -- note the flange on the end opposite from the input, it looks like it has a large core plug closing off the hole. Very good chance that the input could be swapped quickly.mad4hws wrote:Wondering if it could be switched if that's the case.

We have Koenig gearboxes on our smaller feed pump turbines at work -- they are for the turning gears which rotate the turbine at a slow speed for cooldown. They are also made such that the input and output shafts can come in/out the opposite side.
I noticed that the winch on eBay didn't sell, and has been relisted at $200 less than the first auction.

Re: Is this winch compatible with the Patrol?
Lookie what I picked up on the "bay" last evening. The winch shaft is in the correct location

This is the base mounted version and not the side mounted version which i have seen on Patrols. I'm a little concerned about the angle of the driveshaft from the PTO to the winch, but if we're able to mount this a little bit lower so that the winch shaft is where it would have been with the side mount version, I think we'll be good to go.

Here's some interesting reading on the Koenig Winch and associated PTO's they manufactured:
