Valve adjustment

Really old stuff that got saved. Here are the old Nissan Patrol Club America messages from the 'General' category. Warning, it's dusty in here!

Valve adjustment

Post by npca-jeepy »

I do have all the specs for the valve adjustments.  I will try to get it out and post it on here soon.  It is quite easy.  I also have a copy of a service manual that I am willing to sell.  Please email me if interested. -Jeff jeepcj_6@yahoo.com

Valve adjustment

Ok.  The instructions read that they have numbered the valves starting at the front to the back 1-12.  2 per cylinder.  so 1 and 2 are for the first cylinder, 3 and 4 are for the 2nd and so on. #1: Run engine until warm.  #2: Rotate crank to bring #1 cylinder to TDC on compression stroke. #3: Remove valve cover       Adjust the following while still hot...  In parentheis is the valve in order from front to rear.        Ex #1 (1)        In #1 (2)        In #2 (3)        Ex #3 (6)        In #4 (8)        Ex #5 (9) #4: Rotate crank one turn to that #6 piston is at TDC on compression.      Adjust the following valves...        Ex #2 (4)        In #3 (5)        Ex #4 (7)        In #5 (10)        In #6 (11)        Ex #6 (12) Adjustments should be made while engine is hot.  After all valves have been adjusted correctly, tighten lock nut firmly to secure the adjustment.    Tightening torque:         Pivot Lock Nut:  22-28 ft lbs    Valve Clearance:         Hot:  Intake and Exhaust are both 0.38mm or 0.015 inches   Hopefully all that helps!  Let me know if you need more!  This is a great manual! -Jeff jeepcj_6@yahoo.com

I have recently rebuit the engine and have yet to start it. Thoughts on valve adjustment cold? Do I make the lash slightly less than the specification or greater? Thanks.
