removing steering box arm from steering rod

I've got a 69 that in trying to remove the steering column and box. At the steering arm on the bottom of the box box connects to th steering rod. Iv pulle the cotter pin ou of the end and am unclear how to removes it? I looks like the metal sleave should move over to ball joint. How do I move it

Once the cotter pin is out, you have to unscrew the draglink plug that's there (the cotter pin goes through the slot in this plug to prevent it from moving) using a big flat screwdriver or some improvised tool for the purpose. A flat piece of bar secured to a vise grip will do it, as long as it fits in the big slot of the plug.

With the plug removed, you need to take out the "seat-ball" or "end cap" and then move the pitman arm a little bit towards the outside of the vehicle so the ball of the pitman can clear the sleeve of the draglink.

You can look at a picture and some info here, and although it describes how to adjust the draglink, the procedure is just the reverse:

I did this yesterday in mine, used a screwdriver and hammer lightly to unscrew the end bung thing, turned the wheels to move the steering and it moves over in its slot then just knocked it down and it popped out, if that makes sense

They will, but complete, including the steering wheel sice it's not interchangeable.

Ok cool. I noticed that the pitman arm and draglink setup are different on my 65 . What year did they change?

I was not aware of any change. Maybe minor redesigns? Can you post a picture of the two systems?

I'm not aware of a change there either? I know that the steering box changed in how it mounts, but that's all that I recall.

Here are some pics of the steering box and assembly. The one on the floor is out of a 69 and the one that is on my truck is a 65. I was told it was all original but who knows is someone buggered with it
