Found a little bit of time this weekend to work on the patrol.

Dropped the fuel tank the tank tray and a section of old exhaust pipe. Just like I've read on the forum there was a ton of mud and dirt in between the tank and the tank tray.

The tank had about 3 gallons of brownish fuel no sediments or floating rust to be seen so hopefully the tank is in good shape.

I did notice that one of the previous owners obviously had this thing off four-wheeling because the tank tray had a severe gash that cut through the metal and the tank has a huge dent on one side where it struck and drug over a rock, doesn't appear to be leaking so that's good.

As I've noticed every time I pull something apart once again I broke another bolt, this time however it was one of the tank tray bolts in the rear bumper so I'll be adding another bolt to drill out and tap to my list.

We tore into the transmission a little over the weekend, water in the trans is never good, planning to replace all of the seals and bearings but OUCH, these gears look a little ugly!!!

Anyone have gears laying around collecting dust ?

Does anyone know what size socket it takes to seperate the trans and transfer case?

Is it the same size as the bolts on the pinnions, need that size also, looks like i need to purchase some larger sockets....

Not sure about the diff pinions, but I borrowed a 1 & 3/4" socket from work to remove the transfer...previously I used 2 bits of flat steel, a block of wood and 2 F-clamps, but I can't recommend that - it only worked because the Marks 5-spd doesn't have the Woodruffe key on the output shaft so the tab-lock washer did nothing and the main nut was pretty loose

I have been slowly working on some of the interior pieces, started assessing the condition on the steering column cover, its in bad shape for my 69.

Before I started searching to source a new one I figured I would give it a shot to restore this one even though it was missing large chunks out of it.

I decided I would mold the pissing chunks with this,

You take a piece of it and kneed it together and rough form the pieces, let it dry and the you can start shaping and sanding it, I did this with a knife and sandpaper.

With some carving, and sanding it now looks like this,

So far it is working out nicely, still a little bit of sanding and shaping left before I prime and repaint it.
