Hey y'all,
When I first popped the hood, I had never heard of an oil bath air cleaner, so I panicked a little when I saw the air filter laying in a pool of brownish fluid. After reading it was normal, I did a bit of research and I'm convinced I'd like to get rid of it for a oiled gauze (K&N or similar) cone filter.
I'd eventually like to add a snorkel but in the meantime I would like to swap out the oil bath with one of these and add a bit of tube with a cone filter:

My question is will it fit without an adapter or does someone know a hat that will fit? I measured the ID of the air cleaner housing where it attached to the carb and it's right at 2.75" and the OD is 3". I can easily fabricate some kind of adapter or reducer, but if I can get the right one from the beginning, that would be great.
Also, does anyone have any suggestions for upgrading the carb? I'd like to get the truck running before I start upgrades, but I wanted to know what to plan for before I change the filter out.

I had a similar experience with the oil bath air cleaner... except I poured the gunk all over myself! I came up with a solution to use the stock housing... which looks cool! With a modern air filter element. Here's my post about it.

Completed the Faux40 oil-less air cleaner modification. Love it! Like that it retains the factory look. It took a bit of finesse. Used a rubber pvc/pvc pipe coupling to bridge the carb base to the cleaner opening. Will take a couple of pics and post them this weekend. Used a pc of heater hose for the valve cover breather tube but am not totally sold on it as yet. Too stiff. had to use hose clampls instead of the wire spring clamps. Seeking a softer / maybe slightly thinner hose to replace it. Something that doesn't kink when bent as it does make a 90 degree bend.
