Oil Bath Air Cleaner servicing question

I just serviced my oil bath air cleaner. When researching
whether to pre oil the filter screen unit I found
varying directions. One said to pre-oil and one
doesn’t specifically address it or intentionally is saying not to.

Looking for an opinion on this.

The original mesh filter shouldn't need pre-oiling. It will soak up what it needs from the oil bath.
Beyond any hope for intervention
