G'day from Australia!

G'day folks,
Bluey here from Queensland Australia. Been a member on here for a month or two now as i cam across the forums while researching conversion ideas for my Ol' G60. Been meaning to introduce myself but life has been pretty hectic lately so finally getting around to it!
My ol' man has had 60's all his life, this is his 3rd in 50 years, but he is getting on in age and no longer drives much (only short distances) so decided to buy it off him. Use it all the time to run around, tow the boat through the forestry when we go fishing, take it for our annual trip to Fraser island or just to help others out of bogs around town. Has always been well looked after, Kept in a shed and well washed after coming off the beaches but I suspect there would be some rust if I started removing parts and searching for it. One day I would really like to strip her apart and do a full nut n bolt restoration on the ol' girl, but at the present moment i don't have the time, nor money nor the shed space as i have several other vehicles that i have in worse shape and in need to some TLC when i get the time.

Anyway at the moment all i'm looking to do is modernise it just a little, I would really like to do a bit of touring because as you know Australia is a very big country, and there's plenty I haven't seen yet. I would really like to do a Diesel + 5 speed conversion as the 3 speed revs a little too high on long highway drives, and diesel is alot easier to come by when travelling in the outback. Also looking for a disc brake conversion to make it alittle more safer when stopping, as it gets a little scary after a water crossing and you haven't dried the drums out yet haha and a diesel would also help with water crossings instead of praying that the petrol motor doesn't get sprayed with water and stop half way across

Anyway I'll put up a couple pics for you fellas to look at, and I'm looking forward to any ideas, information or comments you may have in regards to modernising her a little but keeping the 60 appearance

Parked up beside the Maheno ship wreck along the coast of Fraser Island. Every 4wd the Ol' man takes to Fraser he always gets a pic beside the Maheno... the other's i don't have a digital copy of.

Thanks for sharing! Great pics. It's cool to see a Patrol being used as it was intended. Also cool story that your father has had G60s and you got this from him. That's a happy Patrol.

Well it would be as waste to just let it sit in a shed and rot away. Much more reliable then any new modern thing you can buy plus you can fix most problems on site enough to limp home, not wait for a tow truck and fork out big bucks for a little sensor/part. Haha plus you get plenty of lookers

This is all true and one reason people who have one love the Patrol. Consider this when you go to swap a diesel in - injector pumps are not so easy to fix in the bush.

Haha this is true mate. but you hardly ever hear anyone have much trouble with them. I'm looking at the fact that diesel is alot easier to come by at remote service stations, and safer to carry Jerry cans full of diesel then Petrol. Also less hassle when the engine gets wet.
Can i build a hybrid and have one of each engine? swap between diesel and petrol as i please? hahah if only.
