Will guages and voltage regulator from a 69 work on a 65

I've got a set of guage from the dash and the small 2 spade voltage regulator. Will these work on a 65? Just getting a list of parts that I want to keep or not.

No, they won't. The gauges for the '69 have a separate resistor in the wiring harness. Without that some of the gauges won't work.

MY 69 has a voltage regulator that feeds the fuel gauge and temp. gauge only, as I recall. It can be tested and adjusted. Apply 12 volts to regulator and "watch" the contact operation with an analog volt meter. Adjust the contact arm until you see the meter swing back and forth with a delay between closure. I guesstimated the dwell time to get about a 9 volt average. There are ways to replace that if you google gauge regulator. There are plans for an IC device that looks real simple. It's been a few years since I messed with it so my memory is a little foggy. Some guys at another Datsun site thought 9 volts was about right.

The voltage regulator is what I mistakenly referred to as the resistor. Sorry, coffee hadn't kicked in yet.

I forgot to add that the adjustment is very a very delicate operation, like eye surgery of something. And I think I adjusted the moving contact arm. You cannot see the contact opening and closing.

Well, that is a proper assumption. Also, assume that the device stopped working over the last fifty years because of contact erosion, which means that the contacts no longer make contact. However, once your test apparatus is hooked up you can verify this by pressing the contacts together. Now, if you get a voltage reading across the contacts that is good. The little wire wrapped around the movable contact appears to heat up the arm. I would also presume that this moving arm is a bi-metal arrangement. Now, if you carefully bend the movable arm towards the fixed contact until it contacts and then watch, you may see the break in the circuit. Keep playing until you do. Eventually the little bugger just opens and closes on its own.

Someone did a little explanation on here somewhere about how to convert the voltage regulator from the point style to a solid state style like this one below but I can't find it now.
