Hey guys
Just wanted to give you a heads up, I installed an aftermarket FJ40 radiator in my 1982 G61. (Yes, I bought another one. No, I can't keep this one either. It will be for sale in the near future after I get everything done to it.)
Since Patrol parts are hard to come by, I had to improvise. I actually think it looks quite good, if I say so myself.
I made a full youtube video on it, if you would like to see I would like to get your opinion on it.
Very clever! How many rows is the core of the FJ radiator? And how much clearance between the fan and the radiator is there? That looks like a clutch fan, so it probably sticks out further than the stock Patrol fan. Obviously there is no way to install a shroud.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to document it.
A couple of years ago a radiator shop replaced the core on mine, since all the attempts at soldering a minor leak failed due to the condition of the core, much in the same way as you describe. The new core and fix costed $600. Maybe yours compares favorably with that.
Might need to keep an eye in the long run for galvanic corrosion.

Thank you! The FJ40 radiator is 3 rows, but they make a 4 row one as well. There is about 3/4" between the fan and radiator. It is a clutch fan, and it actually does have a shroud, you can see it at the end of the Youtube video.
It fits like a glove, looks like it was meant to be there.

Please post some part numbers used.
Thank you Esteban. That means a lot coming from you!
I spent about $150 plus a lot of patience. Also I did find a radiator hose for the top part of the radiator, that reduces the size, at the local parts store. I just told them I was trying to go from one size to the other and they went to the back and found what I needed.
There are a ton of FJ40 radiators on eBay. That's where I got mine. It also cools the Patrol a whole lot better too.
