Rob......Portal is where Patrol's go to die! It appears as if they were clawing their way through the desert on their way to Texas, otherwise known as the Holy land, but apparently gave up the ghost near the AZ NM border pretty close to I -10.

I grew up about 75 miles from Portal, in Silver City. I can't tell you where it is either. never been, never heard of it. Good luck on your trip, can't wait to see the next project
