fuel pump needed

Hi,I just bought my patrol (1969 L60)As I was bring it home I noticed that the fuel pump was leaking. First I'll ask the obvious. Have you tried a Nissan dealer. Most older, well established Nissan dealers have a parts book or micro-fisch for the Patrol. (this goes for any part that you are looking for) At a conventional NAPA, Parts Quest, Pep Boys etc part store you must go to the oldest most patient counter person there. The "younger clerks" weren't even born when your Patrol was rolling off the production line, and don't know what their looking for. Secondly: It helps to have the Nissan part # for them to cross reference. In your case (1969) you need to tell them, 17101-C0601 for a complete pump, or 17053-65010 for the diaphragm and 17076-58000 for the top gasket, also 17099-69000 for the pump to block gaskets (2). If that won't cross- ref. Try : 17010-44012 which is for model years older that '69.but may work or help the search. If all else fails you can always buy an electric (not the cheapest) pump and if you later find a stock pump the electric can be an emergency back-up pump. Good Luck, Gary

After 2 days of problems with the fuel on my '69, I replaced everything I could related to the fuel system. As it turns out, mine was equipped with an aftermarket in-line electric pump (also replaced) and two aftermarket filters. Now I have only one filter (not stock) and lots of new hose. So you may think this is the perfect solution? No, because there is no return hose to the gas tank. I am about to modify this a step further and run a hose from the carb to the vent hose that runs back into the tank. I believe this will solve the last of my problems that still occur at different idle speeds when the pump wants to send way more gas than the carb will accept. This in turn causes dry pumping which will eventuall wear out the pump. The pump works rather well with this one exception. Question: Anyone out there with an electric pump can you tell me how you created the return to the tank? I don't know if it is simply putting in a T-fitting at the carb or what. If this works, it could be a great, cheap (less than $50) solution. Please let me know on ideas for a return to tank line. Thanks
