Your Patrol looks in good shape, and I'm sure that in no time you'll be enjoying it fully.
Great story about how you find it. If you have tackle engines before, the P engine of the Patrol will be absolutely doable for you. There's good chance that a lot of that smoke is due to lack of use.
Ok before auto correct got me again I meant to say,
" I bought three forklift starters. None worked fully, they were weak and dragged. I now have Eddy rebuild originals".
Having said that some more experienced crews/mechanics seem to be satisfied with them.

I had that problem with my starter. It turned out to be a voltage drop on the solenoid due to a corroded connection as the fuse box. It did not have enough "juice" to pop in all the way or reliably. Might want to check that out.
So I have started on this project. I will be starting a rebuild thread but i have a quick Q for folks:
The Nissan Service manual indicates that this engine/transmission/transfer case should all be removed as one assembly. Is this correct? This seems logical given the difficultly accesssing the rear of the engine while it is still in the vehicle.

Excellent. Radiator and front grill assembly have been removed. Now removing shift levers, hand brake etc. Hopefully will get the engine out this weekend. Thanks again!
