5.0 swap and more questions

I just bought a 69 nissian patrol from someone up in grand juction. He knew the guy with the 5.0 swap. I am trying tofigure out what to do with my new toy. I would like to see if this guy might seend me some pictures of his swap or maybe talk some shop about the swap. If at all possible could I get his number A neghbor of mine has a 1978 ford f150 for sale with a 300 six in it. I was thinking of taking the engine, transmision, and possibly the axels out of that and swaping that in. I just got the patrol four days ago, and so far have rebuilt the carburator, fixed most of the electrical. I would like to find a chiltons manual or something. I know my timing is not right and have just been guesing for the most part. I found a book for it at one point in time, but can no longer find it. Before you buy another engine, what is wrong with yours? If you have only owned your Patrol four days you couldn't have gotten frustrated enough to seriously concider dumping the stock gear. If you are set on swapping engines contact Advance Adapters (in California). They have been carrying adapters for Patrols from Marks 4X4 (australia) to swap in a couple of engines. Chevy 292 has been done with a spacer between the bellhousing and transmission. My guess is the easiest swap would be a complete engine/trans/transfer case assembly from something that would fit. Early Bronco, Bronco II etc. Any engine larger than stock will demand swapping in stronger axles. Cost wise: Sell the Patrol and get someting else. CHILTON has published a Repair & Tune-up Guide for Datsuns 1961 to 1972, Patrol is included. Chiltons book number is 5790 and any good book store can order it with this number: ISBN 0-8019-5790-7 and my guess is that it cost less then $20.00.

i have a 5.0 in mine, but i prefer to call it a 302. what do ya need to know? other than its real tight and requires you to swap out axles unless you can get a whole eng/tranny/case from a truck with a dana 18 case. like early bronco. i think a 300 6 would be a better swap. more torque than a 302 and it would fit better. plus its more modern than any other inline 6, elect ignition and fuel inj. if you want it. get one with a four speed, i dont think any came with a D18, but AA can adapt it. i say D18 case because it has the offset f/r outputs for the patrol axles, and is a short combo for the wheelbase. anyway , it gets spendy, i do all my own work and it still wasnt cheap.
