Crash, boom.... Ouch
We had one serious microburst thunderstorm hit us last week - hurricane force winds, 1/2 inch hail.... an inch of rain in about 30 minutes.
and a lot of broken tree branches laying around the homestead in the aftermath... BIG branches. 8-12 inch diameter. Here's some perpective:
So, I suited, booted, grabbed my chainsaw and went to work. Within a few days my backyard looked like a logging camp.
After 2 weekends with the saw and the wood chipper, all pretty much cleaned up now. the only Nissan Patrol casualty was the hardtop I was going to use on my 65 (so, I guess I'll be using my spare soft top frame on the 65, instead, because no way I'm beating THIS back into shape)
Here are some more pics from around the yard... It was one of the fiercest summer storms I've ever been in...

Glad nobody was hurt...big trees go “boom” around here every few months.
Try planting mesquite trees, they don’t grow too large and make great kindling for the smoker.

Pretty intense! And ouch on the hard top! Looks like it already had some bondo on it.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Funny you should mention that- My neighbor has (had) a row of 10 year old mesquite trees across the back of his property- the storm uprooted every one of them.zed wrote:Glad nobody was hurt...big trees go “boom” around here every few months.

I made a retort kiln out of some old barrels several years ago so I can dry the Eucalyptus wood (and my neighbor's Mesquite) and use them to make lump charcoal for the smoker and the grill- another neighbor down the road is an amateur Blacksmitth, and he loves using my Eucalytus charcoal in his forge - he says it burns just as hot, and lasts almost as long as coal (and he has access to a free supply right down the street.
(yeah, I'm old-school about more than just cars)

Of course it did... It originally came on the El Bondo Patrol....RiverPatrol wrote:Pretty intense! And ouch on the hard top! Looks like it already had some bondo on it.
The side panels are still good, and I have the glass, the window frames, and brand new rubber seals for it... so I guess I'll be listing those in the "for sale" section soon. (unless I decide that I am going to fix it...
The serious bummer is that if the storm could have waited a couple more months, all the Patrol-stuff would have been 200 feet further away from the tree- We've been working on a long term solution for car and junk storage all summer (more about that project, later...

We were staying Mesa last summer when about 1:00 a.m. the phones lit up for a tornado warning. As a former Nebraska boy I thought I had woke up in the twilight zone. It did some damage too. Shame about the top but it seems all the boys like running topless anyway.
