I am back at work full time which is delaying my project again. It's good though - just annoying after making so much progress.

In this video I have cleaned up the chassis and sent it away to be blasted and powdercoated (I love how clean it looks now). I've had my springs reconditioned at a local springworks and started collecting some shackles and things.

Nothing overly exciting, but it is the first stage of this project where things are on the rebuild phase instead of the tear-down!

I know that freshly powder coated look on the frame -- It's awesome!

that rusty patrol is even more rusty than the one I just picked up from upstate NY. It gives me some hope!

Had today off so visited a local wreckers yard where they had 6 or so MQ Patrols.

Apparently going to this particular wreckers after rain isn't ideal - I was over my boots in mud and water, but still treked down the back where the MQs were.



I was looking for MQs with H260 diffs as I wanted to see how similar they are to G60 H260 diffs. I'm not sure if any of these were H260s, they didn't look as massive as my G60 one (although they don't look as small as the non-H260 G60 diffs either).





One thing I did discover is that all these MQs had drum rear brakes. I'd been told MQs had disks all round, but that is either entirely wrong, or at least wrong in these examples.

So the only advantage that MQ rears would give is lockers. That's still pretty major - but not quite as good as I'd been hoping.

The owner of the wrecking yard wasn't there anyway - his offsider was able to let me look around, but couldn't sell anything or do quotes etc - so no idea what they'd want for a diff. Also have no idea how you'd try removing one where the ground is so sloppy and soft.

They maybe the H233 Rear diff mate, most wreckers will have a forklift or be able to remove the diff for you.

As for the Drum brake Rear, who ever told you that they were disc is wrong, even some of the early GQ Wagons were Drum rear, and Even some GQ/GU Utes had drum brake Rear ends.

How much did you paid for the shackles?

More than I would have liked. For all the shackles and pins it came to around $400 - but I was supporting a local shop which made me feel slightly better about it.
