Possible Postal Patrol
I know I have shared you some of you how miffed I was to have a man in a parking lot say something about my Patrol being a Mail Jeep. But you know, when you get out into small communities the postal carriers often drove what they wanted, and still do. Not far from the suburb I live in is another municipality where the mail carrier drives a right hand drive Subaru Outback. And I got to thinking maybe I shouldn't have been so quick to dislike that man in the parking lot and what he likened my Patrol to, maybe where he lived once a long time ago the mail carrier there drove a Patrol. I really got going on the thought when I saw the thank you poatcard that my letter carrier left for us after she received the little holiday gift we left for her. This postcard is official USPS issue for their letter carriers to give out, and darnit if that non-descript truck couldn't be taken for a Patrol! I know I know, it's a stretch, but check out the attachment (if it worked) and humor me.Attachment: possible postal patrol.jpg

It does look more like a Patrol than a DJ though I suppose early series Bronco or Scout might equally fit the bill - loosely speaking that is. What I find interesting is the one arm round mirror - exactly like the one shown in the Patrol manuals.

Alex, yes that is a stretch. Looks to me like a generic jeep drawn by sombody who doesn't really know what a jeep looks like. It does look kid of like a patrol, but it also looks kind of like a land rover or even an Austin Gypsy. By the way, ever seen a gypsy? They used to be sold in england, they looked like a land rover for the most part. Hey, how come hardly anybody has replied to my post about Marks not carrying the five speed anymore. This is something that I thought alot of people would be interested in. Guess I was wrong. Take it easy, ya'l

Alex .....and I thought I was the only one to share such an insult! As I referenced in my "where were you guys 5 years ago" note posted further down the message list, I too was tired of the mail truck references with my previous Patrol. That was then, this is now....I now have aquired another nice Patrol and had it out last weekend for new tires. It drew quite an admiring crowd at the garage. All was well until out of that crowd came a NEW comment........."Wow, cool! It looks like an old ambulance!" The nerve of some people. Oh well, it must be that flat back and smalls rear doors! I love to watch people stare it down, though. I know at first they're thinking "hey, theres a nice old Land Rover" and then it starts to sink in. It is at this point you see their eyes darting all over looking for some kind of verification. Then the eyes lock onto the side emblems. P-A-T-R-O-L. Huh????? What the heck is a Patrol?!

Eyes darting all over? I've seen it many times!!!Itsagood feeling....Watch those Toycruiser guys, they seem to give the most bang for the amusement buck!!! I invariably get a: wave, thumbs up, or just a plaindumb stare! The day after I got mine home, the guy next door was over to find out just what the heck I had in my drive...Then he asked where he could find one to trade his Cruiser for!!

Alex, Sorry about the "Mail Truck" dorks. So far mine has been mistaken for: a jeep (older jeep), a thing or something, a military surplus something, but the best is LAND ROVER. I just nod and and tell them how expensive they are and how Frank Buck and Clyde Beatty used them to capture African animals. If you can't baffle them with brilliants then dazzle them with B.S. Gary

My wife's first words when I brought the patrol home was " it's a mail truck" Paul King
