Patty the Patrol

Hey y'all. We bought this 1967 Patrol last November, and have been moving extremely slowly to get it on the road. After getting lots of good information from folks on here, and reading through the fun build threads, it feels like time to start sharing our build.

I'll start with some early pictures... I found this truck on Facebook marketplace, and it kept being there every time I would look. After several weeks, I couldn't stand it anymore and had to go bring it home. It looks like it was original purchased in Mobile, Alabama and then used as a hunting truck somewhere in north Mississippi. It seems to be largely original, with one respray in cheap metallic grey, and some big-honking bumpers.

Welcome to 60Patrol! Thanks for the introduction and pics - we love pics. That looks like it has good potential, a worthy project. I see other interesting vehicles in the background so the Patrol fits right in. Thanks for the pic of the ID plate, I will add this one to the Registry. Very cool that it has the original documents indicating the history!

Welcome, You did pick a good starting point. I would be interested to know what your final goal is? Just a driver or reliable off roader or garage floor weight, all are good ends to a mean. This forum helped me immensely and it really can't be done without them as parts and knowledge are hard to come by.

I don't know where I will ed up on this project. I've already had to turn down offers to sell it, so it seems like this is another member of the collection that I will have forever.

It looks like it was original a cream white color, and I think that would look great on it. But, I also tend to just drive my cars as they are, improving them as needed to keep them going.

Even though the old Rochester carb is still working, I think I will upgrade to electronic fuel injection, and possibly with electronic ignition powered by a Megasquirt. This Patrol has the waterproof distributor, and so far finding parts for it hasn't been easy; but I did just recently find the amazing parts directory on this forum. I've been working on a custom two injector throttle-body injection system that I think I can build for a lot less than modifying an Autolite type EFI kit. But after seeing that someone has already made the Autolite type Holley Sniper work well, that is really sounding easier...

It needs new core plugs, oil filters (that I haven't found locally yet), and wheel bearings to be road worthy. So for now it just gets to drive around the neighborhood and pull stuff around in the yard. The truck really only has rust through at the rear bed corners (photos coming soon), and in the right side foot well. But the roof is another story, and basically all of the water-holding areas are gone. Those repairs don't look like they will be too challenging though. I was shocked by how well preserved the metal and original paint were under the rubber gasket that was between the roof and body, like brand new.

The old Buckshots were like riding on stop signs, so I put on some new shoes. What a difference! Truck drives like a dream on good rubber. We also removed the top and did some cleaning since the last pictures.

This was the first set of tires I mounted myself, and managed to get them on the Jeep wheels (also have the factory tube-type wheels) without messing anything up.
