Map Work Light Globe Solution

Post by desertrat »

I miss the dome light switch on the dash of my '64 P-Troll when I'm in the '68.5 in 0-dark:30 conditions. It seems that spot has been taken for the flasher doohickey. So I resort to using the map light and it's just annoyingly blinding. It's nice to have some light to find the ignition switch, my @5$ etc. The P-Troll leaves little to be desired IMO but this is one of them for me. I wanted something more like a instrument light from a MB, GPW, CJ2 etc. but I didn't want to lose the original light. It turns out a Truck-lite, Grote etc. trailer licence plate light has a shroud just the size. So with a little work on the milling machine slotting and tweaking, voila!

Yeah, '68 was the first year they moved the dome lite switch to the support bow that the light is on. That's a creative idea. Perhaps using a lower watt bulb in the light would have sufficed.
Beyond any hope for intervention
