Vehicle transport Shipping

Post by moobaru »

I did a search and didn't see anything that popped out at me, so I am sorry if it has been asked before. I am leaning towards getting a patrol shipped via transport rather than me driving across the country to pick it up. I was wondering if anyone has any reliable companies that they have used before? A lot of the ones I have researched seem to use independent contractors that from what I have read some of the contractors a very shady.

Thanks in advance!

I have used commercial car transporters about a half dozen times. Yes, the low priced contractors are generally shady and take no responsible for damage while in transit. Furthermore they miss pick up and delivery dates by days or even weeks. The more isolated the pickup or delivery is....the much harder it is to get a hauler. They like to pick up and deliver in large cities like Atlanta to LA. If you live in Mayberry RFD it maybe weeks before you find a hauler.

For a higher price you can get more professional haulers. I have had two Patrols delivered. One by an internet contractor, one by a mom and pop.

My best experience, which was completely acceptable, have been with mom and pops carrying 2-4 cars. Many mom and pops haul coast to coast.

Patrolling again soon,

Thanks for the info, I have contacted a few transporters that don't use the contractors and they are quoting me about double what the ones that use the contractors charge. With calculating fuel, DEF, hotels, food, and uhaul trailer rental, I'm looking at about $1900 if I do it myself. One of the non contractor transport companies (plycon (anyone used them before?)) quoted me about $2500, I'm leaning towards using them just so I don't have the stress of driving out there and making sure U-Haul actually has the trailer, not to mention last time I tried to drive out to get it in June, a deer ran in front of my truck kicking off all the safety "features" and disabling my truck.

I've had hot shots deliver a fair number of vehicles for me. I'm poor and have used contractors each time and two of the three times have been good experiences. The one bad experience wasn't the fault of the driver but the contractors being dicks at the last minute. Even then, it wasn't too horrible. If cost is a big concern for you just make sure you talk to them, feel them out before hiring them, and check their reviews/insurance. Trust your gut and you'll be OK.
