Hey Everyone,

I'm curious if anyone has run into this issue with pertronix electronic ignition?

I have a '67 60 with hitachi D608 with waterproof cap.

I probably should have taken the cap off first but I ordered the pertronix 91763LS ignitor 2 for the vehicle. When I took the cap off to put the new unit in I found an older pertronix unit that unfortunately does not have a part number. Nevertheless I removed the old and tried to fit the new but it does not line up with any of the screw holes in the distributor base. Pertronix has been unable to identify what model is installed and I have compared the ignition unit's base with what I can find on their catalog without success. They also are puzzled as to why the 91763 won't line up. Was there an older work around with another vehicles ignition unit? Has anyone seen this pertronix base shape before and able to identify? Anyone else have trouble fitting the 91763? I appreciate any advice in this regard. So far the current unit is working fine, but I would like to try and find a replacement in the event it stops working. Thanks.

At first I thought that the one currently in your distributor was one of the original ones I had Pertronix make on a group buy. I happen to have a couple left and pulled one out but yours is even different than that. Yours actually looks like someone found something close and cut out notches to make it work. Here is one of the original kits installed:

I also just happen to have a 1763LS that I ordered recently to install in L60Boerne's project, so I went and pulled that out along with a spare distributor to compare. The 1763LS does fit just fine. The trick is that you need to turn the screw that is used to adjust the (now non-existent) points so that it is out of the way of the Ignitor. That screw doesn't unscrew, it only rotates in an off-center manner to obtain adjustment of the points. Here is the 1763 installed:

I see, I never would have guessed that the screw was off center and rotated out of the way! Thank you for looking into this. I also was misunderstanding the ignition unit placement. Does it not matter where it is placed in terms of (for lack of better description here) degree around the rotor cam? Thanks!

In general terms, no, since you'll have to setup the correct timing once installed rotating the whole distributor.

Understood. Interestingly the new igniter unit will be about 90 degrees clockwise from the current unit. I will have to play around with this to see how that effects the timing. Thanks again for the help and info!
