Greetings to Patrolees Worldwide,

Just a note to say Pinto Patrol will be tested to almost 14,000 feet shortly after memorial day. Hopefully Plateucal and I will get some time on the back deck together.

Pictures to follow.

I guess David was too busy off finding more adventures to post these himself. Pinto Patrol served him well and made it as far up the Rockies that they would allow him to go - 13,000 feet.

Thank you RiverPatrol for posting those pictures. Pinto Patrol did great. FYI,Indians called horses with many colors a Pinto. Anyway, that Patrol rocks! However, I did have to turn around at 12,000 ft as the mud and snow generated to many threats from the passenger's seat. With a bit of momentum and inertia I could have made it.....or careened off the mountain at a high rate of speed.Well that is the way victory or defeat is recorded....it has just a singular outcome.

We are already planning next Memorial Day in Lake City andI hope to have more Patrols in the picture. That is all I'm saying for now.

This is why Patrols don’t have fender flares.

Re: PatrolP1 Patrol Build - Transfer Case

Post by L60Boerne »

Greetings,
Pinto Patrol's transfer case seals can not contain the gear oil. Eddie says the splines don't tighten up. Can it be rebuilt with this issue? If so, what do I need to source and where do I get these parts in order to get it back to spec? Or..by slim chance...can an experienced transmission repair facility repair it?

My spare transfer case is in CO and it will be rebuilt by Rene but it will be at least a month or two before it is fixed and sent here. This is prime Pinto weather and I want it back on the road.

As usual, all your help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear that David. I doubt that a transmission service will be able to fix it. For what you describe, there's excessive play between the flange #23 and the rear shaft #26, and also between Flange #42 and front shaft #41, so oil is going through the splines. If the play is not too much, I will use silicone at the outer edge of the flanges so the splines actually push out the silicone, as well as before putting the nut #22. That will contain the oil.

Member Coyote Patrol might have some spares, as years ago he kindly sent some parts to that Patrol that was stuck in Argentina on its way up through South America.

I have a couple transfer cases laying around. I may have some time this weekend to evaluate if they are useable.

Thank you Esteban, Eddie tried something like that but it quickly failed. 50Car hopefully has a transfer case I can rob some parts from. Rene in Lake City is pulling apart my spare this week too. So, hopefully, from all this effort on my behalf a solution will materialize.
