HELP!! Need Desperately - Glass Sight Tube for VC42 Carb

Post by r1lark »

Anyone have a parts VC42 carb with a good bowl level sight glass tube? I was testing out different sealing washers for the sight tube (they are not included in the carb kit, at least the carb kit I have) and chipped a big piece off the end of the tube. :x

At the bottom of this post are a couple of pictures of the tube.

Any assistance in locating a replacement would be very much appreciated.

Thanks, Paul

Keith, no, it has to be something solid. A gasket fits below the glass tube, and one on the top of the tube, and then a threaded plug at the top is tightened up to compress all the pieces so a seal is made.

Thanks Justin. Yes, I've been looking at availability of Borosilicate Glass (Pyrex for us old folks) Tubes, and there are some that are "close" in OD and ID. But then cutting and getting the ends flat and square is an issue. I see where some people have used diamond cuttoff wheels in a dremel, and then tried to sand or file (with diamond files) the ends flat and square. I thought about possibly putting the tubing in the lathe and making something temporary to mount the demel to the compound rest. Lots of "ifs" there.

Still hoping that someone has a VC42 parts carb that can provide a sight glass tube.

Thanks Justin, had not seen that one (but have read about some of those methods). He never says, but I assume that is Borosilicate Glass.

Hi Paul,
I just sent several of my VZ 42 carbs to Coyote Patrol in AZ. As well as some Rochester carbs as Flagstaff has a Rochester but I'd like to replace it with VZ 42, but that is up to Coyote.

It kinda ruis the carb when you take the site glass out, as you know.

The box of parts arrives there today.

Just know if the only way to get a site glass for you is to send you one of mine carbs, I will do it. II have the hands of a sturgeon so you get to remove the site glass or use the carb. I can't believe they come out to begin with.

Anyway, we can't get it to you immediately but you hve a source if you can't find a new replacement that fits.
