Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Greetings,
Flagstaff Patrol is in Eddie the Eagle's shop. The forum team has been generous again. The first step will be to pressure test the block. If it is solid, then he plans to check out the motor, which looks pretty good. I think with a few parts from the forum we have everything we need to get through these two steps.
It will take some time to get through these two steps.
If it is worthy then I see another topless 66 Patrol decked out with a PTO winch and front disk brakes.
Rolling and Patrolling,
L60Boerne

Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Greetings Patrolees,
I have good news, the motor of Flagstaff Patrol is very solid, great compression and no water leaks pointing to a cracked block from a couple of high altitude winters.
The forum has been generous as usual. so appreciated. I have received several distributors which was the reason this Patrol fell out of duty to begin with. It seems someone along the way removed the gear at the lower end of the distributor. This would be the gear that meshes with the gear from the oil pump. That is all we are missing.
Does anyone have one from a scraped P 40 motor?
If so, I would be ever so grateful to buy it. With that in hand I believe Flagstaff will be on the trails this next hunting season.
Thank ful for the help as always....while Patrolling for parts,
L60Boerne

Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Greetings,
I think I am making this harder than it really is. I have a new oil pump and will just put that in and hopefully one of the distributors that I have will fit in to it without any further issues.

Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Greetings,
The search goes on. The NOS oil pump does NOT include the spindle. That is what we are missing. It is shown as part #4 in the oil pump assembly drawing.
If you have a spare spindle, please let me know.

Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Greetings,
Eddie the Eagle is installing the parts I acquired from Mike in TN, plus others on hand, all hoses, alternator and bracket, Pertronix, distributor spindle and plug wires. Later this week we should see it smoke up his shop. If that works then he will add the thermostat and start on the fuel lines, then brakes in the coming weeks.
This Patrol has a straight enough body for painting. I am thinking about vintage Range Rover green. It would be better for hunting. Would I get kicked off the reservation if I went with a non Nissan color?

Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Thank you for the Datsun color schedule. When and if the time comes we will be able to pick one from that group....because I don't want to jeopardize my place at the camp fire.

Re: 1966 Patrol- Flagstaff AZ
Greetings,
Two steps backwards and one step forward. It turns out the nice guy I bought all the parts I needed from in TN got confused and left out all the critical parts we need to get Flagstaff turning over. Soooooo frustrating. You put it in writing, then discuss it twice and yet confusion reigns.
At present CoyotePatrol is racing to send what we need. In the meantime Eddie has rebuilt the carb, freed up the throttle connections and installed the PerTronix. Perhaps today, while we wait on parts Eddie will rebuild the OEM battery frame, assemble the seat plate and attach the driver’s seat.
Patrolling in circles,
L60Boerne
