Greetings, I solved my own questions. My experience indicated that the hubs do not tottally lock the front axle because Patrol's have open or limited slip differentials. Still one must ask what do they hubs really do if they don't lock the front axles? I guess it is just a more positive connection.

When the wheels are freewheeling, with the locks disconnected, all the internal components of the front axle don't move and that will save a little bit of fuel.

Japanese 4x4s didn't come with locking hubs at the beginning. They were fitted first here in the USA. And the reason is simple enough. The Patrol and Toyotas have "constant velocity" joints instead of universal joints in the front wheels. The use of locking hubs is noticeable and more beneficial in the second case (universal joints)

I'm thinking about a locker for the rear axle for this one. I put a lincoln locker on the first Patrol and it didn't work at all but I can recall if I put it on the front or back.

Your Lincoln locker would have been on the rear. That's the only kind of 'locker' available for a Patrol. Not recommended at all, as you know from past experience.

Eddie is getting closer to getting Flagstaff Patrol in the dirt. So far on short drives this motor sounds the best of six he has rebuilt. However, every system required rebuilding bumper to bumper. Plus, this one has an FJ40 rear axle which seems to work ok.

With you help we found the transmission filler hole plug, seat brackets, dash knobs and the other odds and ends we needed.

The brake system is per spec with high pressure and dual reservoir Wilwood MBC but stopping is less than perfect. It will stop quickly but not skid to a stop.

He says with time he will find a replacement for the water temp sensor.

At some point I need to send off a non working Speedo and have it rebuilt as he had to install a metric one I had in stock. If anyone has a working Speedo in good shape. I’ll gladly buy it, but it must be working. I have a stack of non working ones.

I thought I bought a really good PTO but it turns out it was bent or broke in just about every part except the spool and frame. Eddie made parts and brought it back to life.

We plan to field test it locally in a couple of weeks. Then fix what comes loose…..then test of life and limb on the 06 in mid February.

This one will get sanded and painted so the rear seats will be added later. Furthermore we need the space for gear in February.

February 06 looks to be a three Patrol Patrol.

As most people knows I prefer to be topless. With a few cuts here and there the lines become much more pleasing to me.

So Eddie has been building various Patrols for me and I think we have struck upon a nice finish of the top rail for Flagstaff Patrol.

Please look past the lack of paint. It is coming after field testing.
