Bumper Ideas

Post by MadTripper »

I'm going to fab up my own bumper for Plow Patrol. I went over to the mud forums and looked at a few ideas but only found a few I really liked.

At this point, I want to have the plow mount integrated with the bumper and also mount my Belleview winch behind it. I'll try and put a drawing up in the not so distant future. I think I'm going with 6" channel, extend the frame a bit to fit the winch between the frame rails and add a 2" square stock receiver (think trailer receiver) next to or in each frame rail through the bumper.

Ideas welcome!

Quck idea. The squares will take a standard trailer hitch at 2". My plow frame will insert into those receivers and then drop down from the bumper. The receiver tubing will be tied back into the frame which will be reinforced as well.

Great straightforward solution. Those receivers might come in handy for moving a trailer too. I have dreamt up some ideas for both bumpers too and think the ends could be miter cut to shape in and maybe up...not too much angle, just a bit to deflect and have a classic look. Dont for get to make a proud license plate holder. Will there be extra lights added too? Family Crest flag holders on the ends?

No need for the license plate holder in PA so I'm eliminating that. I thought about some lights and I might add some wiring and power options via an onboard inverter....who knows. I think I'll try and retain most of the stock shape of the original bumper but some added bevels on the ends. We shall see! Thanks for the input.

I like the look, it's similar to an ARB bumper somewhat. I think someone in Idaho put an ARB bumper on his Patrol and it looked great. What kind of steal stock do you plan to use?

For which section? I have to call the steel company and figure out what would be best but I'm thinking 1/4" because there will be some odd stress points with the plow setup and the winch. 1/8th may be heavy enough as well but the steel supplier is good at answering my questions once I tell them my intended use.

Here is the plow design I have in my head.

Daaaam! 1/4" will be monstrous! I have seen a few custom bumpers on Patrols, and most were pretty beefy but I don't think I've seen 1/4" used yet. You might want to re-think those spring leaves before you order them.

I can attest that 1/8" square tube will puncture a hole in a Jeep 1/4 panel..
