I have been working on an old Singer sewing machine that was originally a treadle operated unit from 1895. A buddies Dad was a genius at mods and had electrified/put a 1.2 amp motor on it. Old Sy passed away like 6 years ago and his son Bill just handed it over to me for a trade. I think Bills intention was to get it going again and use it but decided it'll never happen. Sy had left a lot of things alone and accumulating his last years....lots of "toys" so clearing out was good for him too.
I have been dabbling at sewing up other stuff like low key gun bags and I even fixed my carpentry framing bags and a good 'ol baseball hat that just can't die! I finally dialed in the shifter boot making with a different old Singer 128 with only a .53 amp motor from 1940's. The thing rocks and has a small head which was part of the crux with sewing those tight double shifter boots on my wifes modern Kenmore with a 1.2 motor. When I studied this old treadle and found out it was made to work shoes and whatnot, I was all over it. It was in a shed for over 20 years and had piles of droppings and narrrrrrr crap protecting it from completely rusting over .......gasp.......can you say haunta?
I got it cleaned enough to oil it up and it was so seized from dust layers packed into the tracks and moving parts. Little elbow grease and it started moving then more till now it cranks and hooked up the motor and it works too. I'm going to order a manual for it...stoked there is still parts and info out there for these. Damn they made stuff well back then...
