I figure I have the capacity to fix it if something gets skewed. With the slots going horizontal as pictured above, they don't really add any lateral support for the outside walls. If I run my slot vertically, the eyebolts will keep things pulled together until it's opened up. I went a little heavy on the welding of the upright supports hoping they will hold up. I've seen other trailers with various types of support added but I didn't really like most of them. I guess we'll see but this is only Rev. A!!

Like it, straight up and stout! True, making the slots vertical could be even better.

I don't know if this helps or not, but here's a link to a download page for the original m416 technical manual...

Nice find and thanks!

I managed to get the latch assembly milled out today and I'm headed home to see what I can get done. Last night I ended up having company so not as much done as I'd like.

That's great. I love the section on "Demolition of materiel to prevent enemy use"!

Now to find the measurements and I'll have one of my own scratch built in no time

sorry.. hijack off

I made decent progress last night. I'm hoping to get the hinges mounted and finish the latch assembly this evening.

looks good.. are you going with store bought hinges or a slot and bar style with angle iron?

I made some out of 3/4 stock on the lathe with a grease fitting. Makes the gate removable.

Finished most of the fab work tonight. Just need to grind things and sand before a coat of something to cover the bare metal. Pics at some point.
