Lift kit is 90% installed, ordered a 3" front and 3.5" rear to take weight, was specced with much extra barwork i still dont have and expect it to settle front rear 1". Currently before settling (will take 1 month) lift is 4" front and 5" rear.
Brakes were done this week with extended lines front rear, just need to install front drop boxes and sway bar links. Castor is shocking right now, but is good to know what it feels like.
Started at 10am and finished at 6:30pm and totally shagged. Plan was to install the front drop boxes and sway bar links. Was hoping there would be enough flex to undo one side and lever out the radius arm, etc. Ended up taking front springs out and before you know it the whole front end came off and so did the front tailshaft by accident. Then the drop boxes which were advertised as direct bolt on , turned out to be grinding jobbies on the chassis.
Now is all in, BUT have repair work now as when the diff fell out I teared one ABS line and tailshaft needs rebolting in as currently tied up under car.. Leave that for another day. Drove around the block and she is handling nice very happy
Front sway bars keep coming loose, still bedding it in, few quick flex photos from this afternoon. 2nd hand (Brand New) 4 x 35" BFG AT's for $800 arrived today, so about $1000 after shipping
Lift was ordered as a 3" Front and 3" rear and was specced to take bullbar, side bars, rear bar, rear fuel tanks etc. Lift has come out sitting at 4" Front and 5" rear. Everyone has said it will take a few months for the springs to settle. This can be sped up with some weight and heavy use etc. Hence the sand in the rear to help it along.
I dont want the car sitting at 4" as anything over 2" is illegal and 3" is less obvious if you get my drift. Plus if the rear stays at 5" you need additional components (even on 4") with either upper or lower rear adjustable trailing arms to get the diff pinion angle correct etc. Also I'm hoping to avoid front and rear adjustable panhards which are really required for 3" and above to re-centre the diffs, I feel 3" should be ok without but at 5" you can see the diff sitting 1" out to the right.
So hoping the sand assists the springs to settle faster before I decide what do do ?
1- Either run out and buy the accessories that I specced the weight for, rear fuel tank and rear bar to make it sitt correctly.(about equal to weight now)
2- Buy new 3" rear springs
3- Or just buy a 2" lift untill I complete buying all the parts and then re-install it. As the brake lines are all done, it wont be a hard job swapping it all back, and this time if I take the front tailshaft out 1st it will be easier etc.
Well have given up on the current rear springs as still sitting at 100mm with 200kg of sand in the rear or 125mm without sand.
Have ordered today 3” Rear HD Flexi coils to work with the 4” rear shocks which are a 21mm coil for the HD, (Note – Normal coils are a 20mm coil). So hopefully this weekend my rear will drop to 3” and fix my driveline angles and all be ok. As the rear is at 4” teh driveline angle also needs adjustable rear arm to remove tailshaft shudder, this should resolve itself at 3”. Just driving around with the 200kg sand now the rear is so stiff the shudder and bouncing over bumps is just annoying. I reckon the rear would be great for a long trip with lots weight, i.e. Simpson but normal driving it is just too hard.
I reckon I can change these with my eyes closed, so wish I had a hoist, would really make it 30min job to change them out, compared to a 1.5 – 2 hour job in the driveway.
OK new 3" Flexi coils matched to my 4" shocks arrived yesterday. Need the flexi coils so my coils wouldnt fall out if I used standard 3" springs. Heaps more down travel
Old BLUE 3" Extra Heavy Duty (sitting at 5" unloaded, 4" with 180kg sand)
Old Springs sitting at 4" with 180kg sand
Old springs sitting at 5" with no sand
New 3" flexi coils in sitting at a tad over 3" and very pleased, as have more wheel travel with no extra stupid height. Been for a little drive and very happy. Doesnt look stupid high a reckon, will get wifes thoughts in teh morning
1- Snapped my left rear sway bar link. Will send off for a new one under warranty. Still going to extend the factory ones
2- Drop boxes are loose or not fitted correctly. There appears to be 1mm play somewhere so when there is a change of pressure (up / down) you can feel the clunk within the chassis. Need to pull them apart again and check from srcatch. thought is maybe a little to much metal left inplace when I grinded it out, not allowing the metal to sit flush against the original radius arm mount. But as you cant see or tell, It all needs to come out.
3- Have a water leak on the top A Pillar coming from either the sunroof drain or windscreen rubber. Still trying to isolate once it stops raining.
