Seems getting a title for older vehicles is a major pain for you guys! I hear of it often.
We're lucky in Australia that you only need a receipt of purchase and a new roadworthy cert (except in SA) to transfer a vehicle.

Like many people here, I purchased my Patrol w/o a title out of the state of WA and was avoiding the TN DMV for some time. Since the Patrol is getting close to being road worthy, I tried the bonded title approach. After going to the insurance company, bank, and a car dealership to help translate the legal jargon , in which no one had a clue. I decided to face judgment day with the TN DMV. They were actually very helpful and instead gave me an 'easy' Certificate of Ownership for vehicles 30 years or older form and a VIN verification form for a law officer to fill out. The Sheriff that came out was very interested in the Patrol and glad to see it getting back on the road.
My other problem was that my binders with the service & engine manuals had my Bill of Sale in the pocket among other things I didn't get back from the mechanic, who is probably still locked up. Luckily, I had my Paypal receipt and my auto transport documentation to help support my proof of ownership. Turned in what I had and just received my 'clear' title in the mail. Whew!

No nightmares on my end. I had a person come out who does a home inspection service. I didn't want to tow my vehicle and it wasn't road worthy yet. She used to work for the DMV and her name was "Audrey"

She helped me fill out all the paper work so there would be no hassle going from AZ to CA title. She also helped change the Datsun to Nissan also on the title.

I took everything right over to the Auto Club also and they barely looked at the papers.
I did lose my Indiana title for my 98 Nissan truck after moving to California and that was a hassle, getting one. The Indiana BMV insists you appear in person or give someone power of attorney, they would not discuss anything over the phone. I ended up flying back there, to apply for a lost title

In the mean time the truck wouldn't pass inspection, because of the gauge cluster? They had to order and it was months waiting for it. The Nissan Dealership then tried smog it and dropped a valve in the engine and wouldn't take responsibility for it.

They wanted then to charge 1,000. bucks to pull the head and see if the engine was toast. I ended up towing it to a mechanic that put a used engine in it. 3,000. bucks later it was titled in CA.
