It was definitely a dust snorkel rather than a breather for going in water. According to some of the paperwork (Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the truck came with a load of paperwork ;) ) the truck has always been located in the Canberra area; the first owner of record in 1981 lived in O'Connor, ACT, which is a suburb of Canberra. I don't know what the climate is like there. I think the truck was used for camping in it's early days, so maybe they were taking it to dusty places. It does have a reddish stain throughout the entire vehicle, and whenever I take things apart they are full of fine red dust.

The Australian flavour is all over it already - 5 wheel nuts ? Ah, she'll be right mate ! :lol:

How 'bout one of these, they were all the rage in the 70's :

cheers,

One of those would be perfect! And I actually have an antenna mount where one could go. Stupid Americans wouldn't get it though - even if it were in the shape of the USA they wouldn't know what it was. :roll:

Yeah, the 5 wheel nuts. The one stud is stripped, and yes, that was my thought exactly: I still got 5 left, it''ll be fine. :D

sleepyzzz wrote:Keith is correct in his suggestions. I really think all you need is the heat gun. if you don't own one they can be rented. after the carpet is out of the way a stiff blade scraper or putty knife should get most of the glue off, but you might have to use the heat gun once more.

Esteban makes me think you might want to leave that air cleaner on, if you plan of getting that out in the dirt. I thought it looked cool on there, but that is your call, and if you plan on selling it, and have a good idea it would fit my 67 let me know.
A heat gun has been tried but not by me. The results were disappointing. The putty knife cut through the paint down to metal, and still didn't remove all of the glue. The carpet was burning before the glue was soft enough to scrape. This is the result:

As for the dust snorkel, after it was removed I put a foam wrapped air filter in the housing over the carb. The carb is well protected from dust. I did keep the snorkel, just because I have a hard time throwing anything Patrol related away. I hadn't considered selling it; if I do I'll keep you in mind.

Should read;

Now, with a Springover conversion, a set of 37's on beadlocks and a fire breathing Vortec V8...? Now we're talking. I've got my plasma cutter, welders and the spark-slinger standing at the ready; When do we get started?
Okay, okay - no extreme rock crawling. Maybe just little rocks. :D

Love that truck!
About that wheel balance...unless you can see something really obvious externally, I would bet there is an extra tube or liner (flap) folded up and trapped inside between the tube and tire. I've seen that a couple times years ago when tubes and split rims were common. Or could be a wallaby trying to circumvent our immigration laws.

Leslie, try the heat gun. maybe the other guy gave up before he got the glue warm enough to soften up. also, you might run it by an upholstery shop and pick their brain. there has to be something out there that will work. good luck, and again, very nice rig.

Watch the toes when wearing flip flops and getting in on the passenger side. I never checked to see how hot a muffler gets, but I've noticed how close it is to the step on the 60 Series Patrols.

And here is an Australia sticker...

:evil: :x

Someone tried to make it look like Ozzie had attempted to be stolen yesterday. They drove it 200 feet down my driveway and left it parked blocking my neighbor's driveway. :evil: For added measure they didn't leave the keys in the truck, probably threw them into the ravine it was next to. So, in the pouring rain I got my first lesson in hot wiring a car - good thing I know the Patrol electrical system pretty well. Now I have to either find a new ignition switch and/or have keys made for both the ignition and the locking gas cap. :angry-cussingblack: There were other things that happened along with this incident but I won't go into it. I am 99.9% positive who was behind the situation and why - someone needs to be hurt in a big way. :violence-axechase: :violence-bomb: :violence-bowandarrow: :violence-hammer: :violence-glob: :violence-pistoldouble: :violence-sniperprone: :violence-uzi: :violence-torch: :violence-telefrag: You don't *&@^ with my Patrols. :angry-teeth: :angry-fire:
