The truck in question is mine. My company is Volcan 4x4, LLC. The pictures in question were taken in Colombia.

It has been sold under deposit to a classic car dealer who is purchasing it for his client. The truck has cleared customs and arrives any day now. I don't know the final price to the client but I know that it will be not far from the $40,000 mark. I am assuming that this is the highest priced recorded for a Patrol. This is not a frame off condition truck but a very, very high quality truck with an interesting history of ownership. I am bringing in a 1981 FJ43 which is the direct competitor and I feel that similar condition medium wheelbase soft top Patrols should bring similar money. With a bit of luck and hard work, I have proven this with my first Nissan Patrol project here.

I added the non original power steering and power brake booster to improve the driveability of the truck. Hard to balance originality with modern driveability. But these upgrades transformed the way the truck performed and I am sure that the new owner will enjoy them.

I would think that this forum would be a little more positive about what I am trying to do. The higher prices mean that I can bring more left hand drive Patrols from South America and continue to preserve them at ever higher quality. Also means more Patrol enthusiasts for what I believe is an amazing vehicle.

Atleast Hemmings recognized this truck as unique... They picked it among thousands of their interesting classic cars as the pick of the day...

You can search on youtube "volcan 4x4" and see me driving the Patrols in Colombian mountains. I really enjoy these trucks and plan to do one soon for myself.

Thanks, Charlie

Charlie - thanks for dropping by and providing some back story on this Patrol.

I am always pleased when a Patrol sells for a large some of money. You are correct, it helps to increase the value of all of out US Patrols. The comments are not necessarily negative, more like realistic based upon years of experience. This forum comprises background from many countries around the world where the Patrol has been imported. The sad truth is that the Patrol just never was as popular as the Land Cruiser, in any market. It's always nice to see a very clean Patrol go to a good home in a wealthy collector's garage, I only wish it could happen more frequently.

Thank you for the publicity that you have brought to our humble little Patrol. We need all we can get. :D
Beyond any hope for intervention

I agree wholeheartedly. I restored a 1983 FJ40 to launch my business and was searching for an FJ43. In all honesty I found this truck on the back of a dealer lot and wanted to pass on it. Everyone in the restoration business says stay away from Patrols. Can't get parts. Can't export them. Won't work. I just fell in love with this truck personally and I went back to the dealer to see it again. I was quite naive about Patrols but through some Patrol fanatics in the US and Colombia and plenty of internet research I convinced myself that I had to try this truck.

I am now a huge fan of these Patrols having driven now a 79 and an 81 4 speed. I really prefer the 4.0 motor over the 2F. It is so smooth. I drove my FJ43 back to back and the Patrol was much much quicker up the mountain than my FJ43. My biggest issue with the Patrol is I dont fit in the tight bench. I plan to do one for myself later with custom split bucket seats. only way I will fit.

With the runaway success of the FJ40s I feel that the Patrols are just under-loved and under-priced. This blue truck above has garnered more interest than any of my other land cruisers. People love the look and the uniqueness. I will tell you all this. Just as in Australia, there are 1000s of Patrol enthusiasts in Colombia.

I was able to meet through my website a Colombian gentlemen who owns the gorgeous yellow Patrol that was featured with Chip Foose.

Anyhow thanks to all I look forward to this being a resource for me and I hope to find more interesting Patrols. Colombia has plenty of them but most were used as rural taxis and abused. Many are still running and working 50 years later.

The parts are available in Colombia but not to the extent of the Toyota. However, my mechanic was able to do plenty of work on the blue one without issue.

Thanks again.

I agree with River. anytime a Patrol makes Hemmings and brings big money when it sells, does help raise the value in all our Patrols. that in turn also makes it harder to find that diamond in the rough that you can afford. But I still think it is a good thing for all Patrol owners.

congrats on the sale, and please keep us in mind on your next Patrol find.

Thank you all very much. I also encourage any criticism in terms of restoration or quality of my Volcan 4x4 trucks. I do the same thing with my land cruiser restorations. This allows me to improve my trucks. Remember this blue one is not a high quality frame off restoration but a very nice condition collectable driver. It is marketed as such too.

I am happy to announce the truck arrived April 17th today and I have it in my possession here in Florida. How fun to drive a Nissan Patrol in the USA? He really keeps up with traffic accelerating but indeed I am guessing his top cruising speed is around 55mph!

I will post some fun Florida photos soon.

I look forward to seeing how the public reacts to this truck. So far no one has any idea what it is. Atleast they don't say nice Jeep like they did with my FJ40!

thanks Charlie

Waiting on buyer with the deposit to fly to Florida. Just got the truck yesterday.

Couple photos of a USA Patrol. No one here knows what it is.

Everything seems to be working on the truck so far. Need to check max cruising speed but I bet 55mph. The brakes work great so far in the rain. FYI these maxxis big horns 245/75/16 I think ride GREAT for such an aggressive looking tire.

My promotional license plate was made by hand in Colombia.

One more photo main street Tampa Bay. The red 1981 FJ43 is our other Volcan truck we brought over in the same container. Very interesting to do a back to back comparison of competitor trucks. I really prefer the Nissan motor hands down. I fit better in the FJ which has more seat travel.
