At the same time that I had the steelies blasted I also dropped off the spare floor and front end that Leslie had been so kind to include with the sale. Thank you Leslie!
Here they are afterwards, ready for primer (more on these later) :



Started on the bushings and struts last weekend.
Out went the deader than dead Nissan KYB originals:



And in went modern day KYB replacements:





Incidentally, I went to order urethane bushings from energy suspension / whiteline in the US but they were out of stock on most all the sizes.
They told me they could special order but it would take 6-8 weeks (next container ship) to come in.
I'm wasn't patient enough to wait two months for a handful of suspension bushings...

So I emailed a friend in Melbourne and asked him to contact Whiteline... I gave him all the part numbers... His local shop ordered Pedders / Nolathane in red urethane - a bit showy for my taste, but I guess a bit of mud on there while hide that... but the prices though !?!?! Oh man, they were WAY MORE than what the US distributor sells them for - go figure considering they are an Australian brand - still not quite sure what happened there ...

Only casualty at the back were the 9.5" ~ 10" rear swaybar end link bolts - both were bent.



An order to McMaster fixed that.
Seriously WHY is it that so much of the hardware is SAE and not metric? I find that so odd for a Nissan...


While I was at the back, I had to do a minor mod.
Something that has always bothered me on Patrols - I apologize to the purists right off the bat...
Cut, align, re-weld:




Moved to the front suspension and there things got interesting...
Even with liberal amounts of penetrating oil, I successfully snapped 3 out of the 4 front swaybar bracket bolts - nice !



Drilled out and through bolted. Done.

Went to remove the aftermarket front coilovers and had similarly amounts of fun. Driver side had the bottom threaded rod bent over due to a rock strike, passenger side twisted right off.



The coilovers have a Made in USA stamp, a UP Arrow stamp, and a part number 81057 - 56920.
Couldn't find out anything about them on Google, but I didn't search all day and all night either...

They are still surprisingly stiff. Do these have any value to anyone for spare parts (the hats and the coils?).
If not, I'll just toss them.

Nice work. Where did you locate the KTB replacement shocks, and what was the part number? They looks identical to the NOS replacement shocks that used to be available form Nissan.

Patrols are all SAE. About the only metric I have found on a Patrol was the nuts under the distributor; they're 10mm as I recall. Nissan didn't switch to metric on the Patrols until sometime in the mid 70's. I think Swerve posted the year for the change once.

I the documentation that went with PFP there were the warranty cards for those front coil over shocks. There was a manufacturer name and info on them. I remember researching it once and not coming up with much other than an ad in an old magazine.

I like the realignment of the license bracket. The squared stamp in the rear of the tub stared in '68, and it really did make the license look off kilter.

Broken bolts are the bane of every Patrol.

Also, regarding the Old Man Emu Steering stabilizer: I stopped by Spector Off-Road in Chatsworth this week to say 'Hi' to Kay, and in one of their displays in the parts department there was an OME steering stabilizer that looked exactly like the one you posted. I didn't ask for the part number, but I think it there is a good chance that it is the same beast. So, we can keep that in mind as an alternate source.
