The P40 engine was fairly commonly used in forklifts. If it is not imperative to you to keep the original number's matching engine block, then the fastest route to take with the engine is to order an already rebuilt P40 long block:

http://www.wholesaleforkliftparts.com/product_p/p40.htm

The price on that one includes all shipping both ways for the rebuilt engine, and for your old engine core. I think their price is right in the ballpark. ;)

Just doing the math, a P40 overhaul kit (gaskets, rings, bearings, etc) is a thousand bucks. Machine shop work on the head and block will be another 1000 to 1500... Then consider the time factor-

1) you have to wait to order the overhaul kit until the machine shop determines if the cylinders or the main journals need to be bored oversize.
2) the truck has to sit there for the week or two (or three) that the engine is in the machine shop being worked over.

That extra 300 bucks saves a ton of aggravation, and makes the entire engine replacement a "drop and swap" exercise:

1) Order new engine
2) Replace engine when it arrives- you could be driving the truck in 2 days, instead of 2 weeks.
3) send back old engine core and get core refund

Can you tell what I would do if I were in your shoes..? I just wish there was a forklift company out there that offered rebuilt P series engines for the Model 60 Patrol.... :crying-blue:

Just my 2 cents :twocents-twocents:
That looks like a grand idea. I just need to figure out my shipping cost to this darn island.

Now if I am ordering that engine, is there a few other seals etc I should get at the same time to replace while I have the engine out?

You will still need:
- Manifolds' gasket
- Exhaust gasket (to pipe)
- Water Pump gasket
- Thermostat Housing gasket
- Fuel Pump gasket

Maybe to order the complete gasket set will be best. The manifolds' gasket is the same as the P engine and can be bought individually. I'm not sure how the exhaust gasket is in this one, but probably the same and easy to come by from any parts store. I don't use paper gaskets any more, and rather use silicone compound like Permatex Form-a-gasket.

But remember that you will be uncovering the clutch also, and you might find that you need to install a new one along with the new engine. That could probably mean also the pressure plate, throwout bearing, and disk. The disk and the pressure plate might be difficult to source in the States, and you'll have to look for Colombian sources.

Why do you think that you need to have the engine rebuild? Have you already inspected it or was it disclosed during the sell? Maybe it's not in bad shape and you can go some intermediate route.

Send me the tickets...

The engine was burning oil and actually seized on the road while my bud was trying to drive it here. Its sitting in a yard in Augusta Maine. A mechanic did a quick look at it for me and said yup its seized.
All that being said, it would be nice to have a more trustworthy and knowledgeable fellow look at it if you know anyone. I really don't want it sitting in the snow which is why I was going to just throw it on a trailer.

Well, that explains a lot. Sorry to hear that.

It probably makes a lot of sense what Robert moore_rb was suggesting.

Are you still able to ship it to St. John's in that condition?

Yes I can ship it, l also calls the place Moore_rb suggested. It is that price, plus the core charge, plus its setup for propane...so how hard of a switch back to gas will that be? I am guessing that not much of an issue.

there should be no internal differences in the long block between a gasoline and propane engine...

I wonder if their price includes the full induction system with the propane intake manifold and pressure switch, etc... :?:

if so, then swapping out the intake manifold would/should be pretty easy ;)

I will call him back at the engine place, but he sure made it seem like it was everything.

Maybe it all comes to the valves and guides, that were never aimed for unleaded fuel. No big deal.

Yes I am hoping I just steal what I need off the old petrol engine before I send it back for core credit.
