This is my setup. I use tire straps as my main "unsprung" tie-downs. I also have axle straps for certain rigs, but I prefer the wheel straps.

On some trucks, like my hardbody, I will strap the chassis down too. That thing is so flexy and has so much spring that it looks like a bobble head in my rear view mirror if I don't run a strap to the frame. But that's really just for sway control. The security of the load comes from the wheel or axle straps.

I also run air bags in my titan (not inflated in this picture.) As well as an e-qual-izer load distribution and sway control hitch. It really makes a huge difference on those long hauling trips.
