The drain for the block is above the starter.

Rochester carbs were used after '66. It may have been a dealer replacement for your Patrol. The Hitachi is what would have been on yours new. Strombergs are from Australia, but they were never stock on Patrols. They make a good replacement carb.

Yes, a push button ignition was standard until '68.

In addition to RiverPatrol's comments, the two Hitachi carbs that you mention are the original from the factory. Very good carbs, very smooth ride, but a little lacking in power. It's possible to get a repair kit, but probably in Colombia.

Before starting it, and specially if it was not running for a long time, try to put some oil in the cylinder chambers and work with the battery to make it turn a number of times. There was a thread of somebody facing the similar thing as you and some excellent tips on what steps to prior to starting the engine. I will try to find it. Hope Robert (moore_rb) will chime in.

Mine was stored for 40+ yrs by the PO so after I purchased it, I filled all 6 cyls with Marvelous Mystery Oil and let it sit for a week. I then slowly rotated the engine via the hand crank.

Yes. It is where the petcock should be.

Once you take it out most probably no water will flow since it's know to collect a lot of deposits in that area. You'll have to dig it with a piece of wire from a clothes hanger and then keep working at it once the water starts flowing.

Also, there was a recent tip on how to "snake it" using a drill.

Perfect thanks for th help. Anyone know where to can get a petcock for it? I wonder why someone would have removed it? Unless they snapped it taking it out originally

I just checked the Parts Manual, and the superseded part for the petcock was just a plug. So in a way, it is probably an original spare.

https://www.carpartsmanual.com/DesktopM ... 7&mid=6598

Original Petcock: 21211-55101
Superseded with plug: 00931-30610

The plug itself is NPT threads. Maybe somebody has access to one and can measure. You can probably find one at any plumber's supply. I just checked at Summit Racing and they have a number to choose from.

In a way, the plug will work just fine. Many of us have tried to drain the block only to find out that it's clogged and the only way to deal with it is to remove the petcock entirely and work clearing the deposits. Also, seldom you need to deal with it. If after you clean everything, make sure you use a good antifreeze like Prestone, and forget for a long time to deal with this drain.

I personally will keep the plug.

I'm going to snake it out when I get a chance. I installed a new battery the other day and turned it over. The engine turns turns freely but seems a lot slower than most vehicles I've had. I've seen some tractors that spin slower so is this normal? Also what are the the red and green lights above the steering wheel for? I've checked my service manual but can't find a electrical schematic or diagram any where in it? I'll try and get some more pics posted soon. My infant son keeps me very busy! Can't wait until he is old enough to help.

The red and green lights are high beam and turn signal indicators.

It's not going to crank super fast, so you're probably okay. Just be sure your battery is fully charged. One thing you want to make sure of for your Patrol is the polarity: does your have a positive ground or a negative ground? Your Patrol would have originally had a positive ground. They are usually converted though. You can tell by looking at the ignition coil; if the wire on the negative terminal goes to the distributor, then you have a negative ground.

One light is blinker (turn signal) the other is HI beam headlight.
My Patrol initially cranked slowly after its 25 year nap. I cleaned all the starter and ground cable connections, then disassembled the starter, cleaned commutator, relubed bearings, shined-up the contactor/solenoid points.
Spins so fast now, don't even need the gas engine for short trips !
