Talked to Brian and he was 300 miles from home. He will make it tonight. Turn the page.

I just made it home. Today I put a whopping 675 miles on the Patrol. Four day total 1781 miles. 163 gallons of gasoline burned. I have to say. There were many exciting times and several where I banged my hands up fixing things to keep moving.
I have to say this 66 Patrol isn’t quite as nice as my 67 but I’ve bonded with it a lot more.
Long live the Patrol and those who keep them alive.

I am very proud of Brian and Patty for the mile legend they endured together. I new she was tough but didn't realize how strong these vehicles really are. I don't think there is another vehicle this age that could make a trip like that other than a Patrol with a very hardy driver such as Brian. Great job Brian and thank you for the memories. It has been as much fun for me to follow your progress as it probably was for you to complete the journey. I now have two friends in Berkley California, Brian Kippen and Patty Patrol. Thanks again it has been marvelous.

I don’t want anyone to think it was as simple as getting in and driving 1800 miles. I had a few several hour several hour set backs. Aka character building exercises. The Patrol did an amazing job. I also had to be a decent roadside mechanic. All the problems were minor. When I got home Patty threw in the towel. She quit at my driveway. This complication had only to do the coil being a 12v coil and sending too much juice through the points and condenser. I tried several times to get a ballast resistor but had no luck at any parts store I stopped. The charging system was not working well and required a replacement of the VR I could have adjusted the carbon pile resistor but when I did the charge did not drop off.
When I started off there was a minor exhaust leak between the manifolds. 1500 miles later it was a substantial leak. This actually caused excess O2 to enter the exhaust system creating an epic situation. The passenger side floor mat started smoldering.
All in all. I’d recommend anyone wanting an adventure to take a few days off and take a Patrol on a road trip. It’s good for you and good for the Patrol. (Tough on the wallet and your carbon footprint)
Thanks again for all the support. And thanks a ton to Dubber for allowing me to become the new caretaker of “Patty”
