Thanks for posting the pictures and your description of the finish. I certainly don't have any experience regarding it, unfortunately. But it looks you're on the right track.

I wish member Coyote Patrol could chime in on this.

Ditto here... looking at the cam's base circle, I wouldn't have wanted any more material removed.

These cams are very dense low carbon steel. Those lifters will be seated and spun in nicely within the first few hundred miles

Remember, this isn't going to be a free-revving, high-RPM performance engine. It's going to be one evolutionary step above a flat head farm tractor engine.

moore_rb, you hit the nail on the head! the cams i am used to installing have a lot better surface finish, but they do have a lot more spring pressure on them.
