Thank you Plateaucal,

I need to get two dual reservoir MBC on order. Please guide me on that, plus anything else I need to have on hand. The good news is that we have plenty of safer places to Patrol. No need to drive Black Bear but I'm certain with good brakes there is no more danger there than other places.

This means I will have two perfectly working OEM MBCs next summer if anyone is interested.

I would like to know the reason for the crash, we learn most from our mistakes.

Patrolling through the pandemic,

I am not sure what makes Black Bear so deadly, but in this case it was a failure of the vehicle not the driver. It sounds like both his park brake failed and it popped out of gear while he was stopped and out of the vehicle. His girlfriend was still in the vehicle and fortunately her seat belt failed too. Apparently parking brake failures are a relatively common thing on the Wranglers. Hey! It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand.

That being said, the videos I have seen seem similar to the terrain, grades and turns we did on the Alpine loop near Lake City. I note that a lot of people make two point turns on all the switch backs. We had some tight stuff but never had to back up. Here is a video of on of the switchbacks that David posted a picture of. We did not need to back up on either of these turns. Start at 4:40 or earlier to see the two switch back. We had to back into the clearing on the right on the second switchback to allow passers. This is not us, but a random Youtube video.

Another thing, maybe David noticed, but we stopped a couple of time going up to Cinnamon Pass. I used the emergency brake and as I proceeded around the vehicle, blocked the wheels with nearby rocks as well.
