60Patrol

That is a radiator overflow someone added prior to my ownership.

Ok, I still have an issue but not sure it is overheating. To date I have drained and flushed radiator, added a 160° thermostat (there was not one in it), checked my temperature gauge with a replacement unit that came with the Patrol (same result). Here’s what happens: I start vehicle and within 3-4 minutes temp gauge shows above 212°. The thermostat housing is warm/hot, but I can put my hand on it. Bottom line, it just does not seem to get that hot. No overflow of antifreeze. So I think I have a bad temp sensing unit. Thoughts? If so, where do I get a replacement unit?

Glad to hear that you don't have an overheating issue.

I have a similar issue on mine, a 65 with a different sensor and gauge system than yours, and I been thinking on calibrating the gauge, if possible at all, rather than looking for another sensor. I have not put any thoughts on how to do it.

I might be the temp sending unit but likely something else. On this year Patrol there is a gauge regulator under the dash. It's screwed to the firewall under the dash to the left of the steering column, a little brass colored box with a couple of wires going to it. This might be your culprit. I was going to say the same as River and I might add that you may want to check to see if you have compatible gauges and senders. Judging by your doors being from an older Patrol than a '69 you may have other parts that have been changed out.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, my Patrol has a slew of different parts (I think the cab has been replaced with a 64-65’ model) but all other gauges appear to work correctly. So not sure what’s not correct but believe the sensor unit is faulty.

Any leads on a replacement sensor unit?
