So I got it off the transport truck this morning, and there is a lot more rust on it than those pictures showed. Hopefully it is all just surface rust. I popped the hood and evidently my older brother tried to "Fix" it when he was in high school and he took some of the engine apart and pieces were just laying loose in there. I have no idea if all the parts are there or not. One thing I was very impressed with though is how well the tires and inner tubes held air being that they were installed back in 1971 or 72. I had to get into work after getting the delivery and a quick look over it. I will see if I can get some more pictures up this weekend.

Been a while, been busy. I wanted to check to see if the engine was seized but before using the crank I decided to pull the spark plugs and see how the cylinders looked. The are very rusty inside, so much that I wanted to ask in here (since the engine is so old and parts are hard to find) do you guys think it would be okay to turn the crank to see if the engine is seized at all? See pictures.

In the unlikely event that the engine has lots of rust inside that can cause some damage if you turn the crankshaft, the same damage will occur when trying to dismantle the engine for a rebuild, since the pistons need to come up.

As some members have suggested in the past, I will put either Marvel Mystery oil inside the cylinders, taking the spark plugs out. There's also Deep Creep from Seafoam. Let it sit for a week adding some more if needed. Then you could probably start turning the engine and see what happens to those cylinder walls after some turns.

And then you could put some light oil in the chambers and rotate the engine again.

I hope some other members that had faced this problem can chime in. All this reminds me that I have a spare engine that I bought 2 years ago and had done nothing to it. Not even some preventive measurements, and I'm preaching here!

Patrols that have sat for years have been fine with squirting some oil/Marvel/sea foam into the cylinders and cranking it over by hand a few times first. Some have been fine with even less than that.

Thank you both, I used the seafoam deep creep on the spark plugs just incase, I will spray some in the cylinders too and let it sit.

Well it has been a couple of years and I am ready to get this project going. I shattered my ankle and had to go through several surgeries and not able to really walk for a couple of years. There was an update to the engine that I had asked about previously. I sprayed seafoam deep creep in there and was able to turn the engine manually using the crank. It has developed a leak now underneath. I will inspect that when I get a chance. When I get time I will post some pictures of the engine bay and see if people might be able to help me figure out what might be missing.
